Urgent Need for Safe Homes for Arrested Children

Day 2 of the Commission’s European Union in Malawi funded capacity-building tour brought crucial insights from Chikwawa, Karonga,Ntchisi, Balaka, and Machinga.
????In Chikwawa, the call was clear: MHRC needs a stronger district council presence to address local human rights issues.
????Karonga highlighted the urgent need for safe homes for arrested children, currently only available in Zomba, due to resource constraints.
????Balaka and Machinga revealed a common concern: an imbalance between rights and responsibilities. Duty bearers reported victimization, even physical attacks, while enforcing laws.
They urged policy development for mindset change and called for stricter enforcement and MHRC intervention.
