Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) 2025 Annual Meeting.
The Human Rights Commission with support from UNDP Malawi, Embassy of Iceland in Lilongwe and Royal Norwegian Embassy in Lilongwe, Malawi, led by the Chairperson Chikondi Chijozi and accompanied by the Principal Gender and Women’s Rights Officer Ms Grace Jere, attended the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) 2025 Annual Meeting. The GANHRI Annual Meeting was held from 10th to 12th March 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland.
The GANHRI Annual Meeting is a regular event that brings together National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) from across the globe. This meeting is organized by GANHRI in partnership with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The Annual Meeting includes the General Assembly, the Annual Conference and Knowledge Exchanges on the accreditation process; the role of NHRIs in promoting gender equality and the rights of persons with disabilities. The Commission, through Chairperson Chikondi Chijozi participated as a panelist in a discussion on best practices, challenges and priorities in promoting gender equality and the rights of persons with disabilities. The Commission also looks forward to continued deliberations with the Alliance of NHRIs in the SADC and the Commonwealth Secretariat on the role of the Commission in the promotion and protection of human rights in Malawi and beyond.
